Livia Shmavonian Appointed to U.S.-China Commission
Chair Price, Vice Chair Schriver Welcome Newest Member
Washington, D.C. — Today, the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission welcomed the appointment of Livia Shmavonian as the newest Commission Member.
“We welcome Livia Shmavonian to the Commission and look forward to having her expertise on critical issues of economic and supply chain security,” said Chair Reva Price and Vice Chair Randall Schriver. “China’s evolving industrial policy and manufacturing overcapacity remain challenges to U.S. economic and national security. Livia’s record in the Senate and in the Executive Branch demonstrates a real understanding of these threats and the need for America to take them seriously. The dynamic U.S.-China relationship requires sharp and timely research, analysis, and policy recommendations, and the Commission continues its robust hearing and research agenda this year as it serves Members of Congress, committees, and staff.”
Ms. Shmavonian was appointed by Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) for a term expiring December 31, 2026. The Majority and Minority Leaders of the Senate, and the Speaker and the Minority Leader of the House, appoint three Commissioners each to serve two-year, renewable terms. Background
Ms. Livia Shmavonian most recently was appointed by former President Joseph Biden as Made in America Director at the Office of Management and Budget. Previously she served as Director of Legislative and Intergovernmental Affairs and Senior Advisor to the Under Secretary for International Trade at the U.S. Department of Commerce. On Capitol Hill she worked as Staff Director for the Senate Finance Subcommittee on International Trade, Customs, and Global Competitiveness and served as a Senior Advisor to former Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA).
