Matthew Sperzel is a Policy Analyst on the Security and Foreign Affairs team at the Commission. He worked as a China Analyst at the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) for the Coalition Defense of Taiwan (CDOT) project from 2023-2026. Matthew worked as a Country Risk Analyst for Morgan Stanley from 2019-2021, where he focused on China and East Asia. Matthew holds an MA in International Relations from Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), where he concentrated in Security, Strategy, and Statecraft. Matthew also holds a Certificate in Chinese Studies from the Hopkins-Nanjing Center (HNC), where he focused on Chinese foreign and security policy. Matthew has spent time in China and Taiwan and can read and speak Mandarin Chinese.
