The U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission will conduct a public hearing on Thursday, May 20, 2010 on “China’s Emergent Military Aerospace and Commercial Aviation Capabilities.” The hearing will begin at 9:00 am in Room 562 of the Dirksen Senate Office Building, located at First Street and Constitution Avenue, NE, Washington DC, 20510. The May 20 hearing will examine the progress in China’s attempts to field a modern air force and develop both its commercial and military aviation industrial complex, and what the implications of these efforts may mean for U.S. national interests.
Scheduled to testify on May 20 are Mr. Bruce S. Lemkin, Deputy Under Secretary of the Air Force for International Affairs; Ms. Mary H. Saunders, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Manufacturing and Services; Dr. Roger Cliff, Senior Political Scientist at The RAND Corporation; Mr. Mark Stokes, Executive Director of the Project 2049 Institute; Mr. Wayne Ulman, China Issue Manager at the National Air and Space Intelligence Center; Mr. Peder Andersen, International Trade Analyst for Aerospace at the U.S. International Trade Commission; Dr. Tai Ming Cheung, Associate Research Scientist at the Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation and Associate Adjunct Professor at the School of International Relations and Pacific Studies at UC San Diego; Mr. Richard D. Fisher, Jr., Senior Fellow in Asian Military Affairs at the International Assessment and Strategy Center; Dr. Rebecca Grant, Director of the Mitchell Institute and Senior Fellow at the Lexington Institute; Mr. Jeff Hagen, Senior Engineer at The RAND Corporation; Mr. Owen Herrnstadt, Director of Trade and Globalization at the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers; and Mr. Dan Elwell, Vice President for Civil Aviation at the Aerospace Industries Association.
