The U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission will conduct a public hearing on Thursday, June 11, 2009 on “The Implications of China’s Naval Modernization for the United States.” The hearing will be held at 9:00 am in Room 562 of the Dirksen Senate Office Building, located at First Street and Constitution Avenues, NE, Washington DC, 20510

The June 11 hearing will examine PLA naval development and reforms, recent PLA Navy operational activities, technical aspects of China's naval modernization, and the strategic implications of these aspects on U.S. and allied nations' national security.

Scheduled to testify on June 11 are RADM Michael McDevitt (USN, Ret.), Vice President and Director of Strategic Studies at CNA; Mr. Peter Dutton, Associate Professor of Strategic Studies at the China Maritime Institute; Mr. Paul S. Giarra, President of Global Strategies and Transformation; Mr. Cortez Cooper, Senior International Policy Analyst at the RAND Corporation; Mr. Fred Vellucci, China Analyst at CNA; Mr. Ronald O’Rourke, Naval Affairs Specialist at the Congressional Research Service; and Mr. Richard Fisher, Jr., Senior Fellow on Asian Military Affairs at the International Assessment and Strategy Center.
