The U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission will conduct a public hearing on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 on “China’s Proliferation Practices and the Development of its Cyber and Space Warfare Capabilities” The hearing will be held in Room 562 of the Dirksen Senate Office Building, located at 1st Street and Constitution Avenue, NE, Washington DC 20510. 

The hearing will examine three topics: China’s proliferation activities, its growing cyber space activities and capabilities, and its growing presence and capabilities in outer space.  Witnesses have been asked to discuss China’s recent actions in these three areas, and what these appear to indicate will be China’s objectives and future activities in each dimension.

Scheduled to testify are: Brigadier General Jeffrey C. Horne, Deputy Commander, Joint Functional Component Command for Space, U.S. Strategic Command; Colonel Gary D. McAlum, Director of Operations, Joint Task Force for Global Network Operations, U.S. Strategic Command; Ms. Patricia McNerney, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for International Security and Nonproliferation; Dr. Ashley J. Tellis, Senior Associate, Carnegie Endowment for International Peace; Mr. William B. Scott, author and former editor of Aviation Week and Space Technology; Mr. Timothy L. Thomas, analyst in the Foreign Military Studies Office, Fort Leavenworth; Mr. Stephen G. Rademaker, Senior Counsel, BGR Holding, LLC; and Mr. Henry D. Sokolski, Executive Director, Nonproliferation Policy Education Center. A copy of the full agenda is attached.
