U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission Hearing on
China’s Impact on the North Carolina Economy: Winners and Losers

The U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission will conduct a public hearing on Thursday, September 6, 2007 on “China’s Impact on the North Carolina Economy: Winners and Losers.” The hearing will be held in Conference Room 204, The Kenan Conference Center, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, located at Skipper Bowles Road, Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

The hearing will examine the impacts of Chinese exports on North Carolina’s traditional clothing, textile, and furniture industries, and the effectiveness of North Carolina’s proactive measures to mitigate and adapt to Chinese competition.

The Commission will hear from Duke University and University of North Carolina economists, state government officials, union representatives, North Carolina corporate executives, and community college officials.

To consider feedback and opinions from the people of North Carolina, an “Open Microphone” session entitled: “Listening to the People of North Carolina,” will begin at 4:30 pm EDT upon conclusion of the formal panels. Participants will each be allowed 5-minutes to give their remarks. Registration for the open microphone session will begin in the hearing room at 8:30 am on September 6th.
