The U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission public hearing that was scheduled for Friday, February 23, 2007 on The Extent of the Government’s Control of China’s Economy, and Implications for the United States has been rescheduled. The hearing now will occur on Thursday and Friday, May 24-25, 2007. The hearing room in which it will be conducted on Capitol Hill will be announced closer to the new hearing date. The agenda, panel composition, and panel timing also will be altered, and will be announced closer to the new hearing date.
Among other issues, the hearing will address China’s use of coordinated industrial policies and State-Owned Enterprises to further its economic development. Witnesses have been requested to provide information about the nature and activities of China’s State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC), the pace of economic reform in China, China’s 11th “Five Year Plan” for economic development, the impact of Beijing’s economic policies on the United States, and whether such policies violate the commitments made by member nations of the World Trade Organization.

The next public hearing of the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission is scheduled for Thursday and Friday, March 29-30, 2007, on the topic of China's Military Modernization and its Impact on the United States and the Asia Pacific. Additional information about the specific location, the agenda, and the witnesses for this hearing will be posted on the Commission’s web page as it becomes available. A press release will be issued when these details are finalized.
