The US-China Economic and Security Review Commission will hold a public hearing on December 8 , 2005in Washington, D.C.t o consider Issues to be Addressed at the Hong Kong Ministerial Conference of the Doha Round of the World Trade Organization's Trade Expansion Negotiations. The hearing will examine the relationship China has with the WTO processes and the international norms of globalization. Specifically, the hearing will explore the status of the Doha Round and the possible implications of the Hong Kong Ministerial Conference, and who the major actors are who will determine and define the issues to be considered at the conference. Trade law experts and representatives of the business and labor communities will testify.
The Commission will also examine:
- The U.S. government's policy goals for the Doha Round, and more specifically for the Hong Kong Ministerial Conference
- The U.S. government's track record to date in pursuing these goals.
- The extent of progress the current Administration has made in fulfilling the Congressional objectives defined in Trade Promotion Authority.
