The US-China Economic and Security Review Commission will hold a public hearing on September 23, 2004, in Akron, Ohio to assess The Impact of U.S.-China Trade and Investment on Key Manufacturing Sectors. This investigation will examine first-hand how the U.S.-China trade and investment relationship is affecting the industrial base of Ohio and the neighboring region, and how this may be indicative of broader trends for the U.S. manufacturing base.
The U.S.-China economic relationship is being felt strongly in the U.S. automobile, auto parts, rubber, steel, glassware and ceramics, and machine tool industries. The Commission will take testimony from industry and labor representatives and analysts of these varied industrial sectors regarding the extent to which U.S. trade and investment with China is playing a role in the dynamics and short- and long-term economic health of these industries.
The hearing will conclude with a discussion on the economic development and other community impacts of U.S-China economic relations and an open microphone session where interested members of the public can voice their views. Registration for the open microphone session begins at 8:30 am.
