Calman J. Cohen

President, Emergency Committee for American Trade
                  
Calman J. Cohen is President of the Emergency Committee for American Trade (ECAT), an organization of leading U.S. companies with a mission to support economic growth through the expansion of international trade and investment.  In that position, he has advised the member companies and worked with Members of Congress and a number of Administrations on a broad range of trade and investment issues, from NAFTA and the Uruguay Round to China’s accession to the WTO and the current negotiations for a Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement.  
 
Immediately prior to joining ECAT, Dr. Cohen served as Director of Congressional Affairs for the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR).  Before his service at USTR, he worked with then-Senate Majority Leader Robert Byrd and the Democratic Policy Committee of the U.S. Senate, advising on international trade and economic policy issues, including U.S. relinquishment of the Panama Canal, the Humphrey-Hawkins Act, and implementation of the Tokyo Round of Multilateral Trade Agreements.

Before working at the Democratic Policy Committee, he represented the Smithsonian Institution in Latin America on matters relating to social policy.

Dr. Cohen has been a Teaching Fellow in the Department of Government of Harvard University and a Visiting Fellow at El Colegio de Mexico in Mexico City.

Mr. Cohen received his Ph.D. in Government from Harvard University in 1976.
