Dr. Derek Scissors

Derek Scissors is a Research Fellow for Asia Economic Policy at The Heritage Foundation.
At Heritage, Scissors focuses on the Chinese economy and broad Asian economic trends and challenges facing the United States. In addition to his duties with the think tank, Scissors is Adjunct Professor at George Washington University, where he teaches on the Chinese economy.
Before joining Heritage in August 2008, Scissors was China economist at Intelligence Research, a global political risk assessment firm. In that role, he counseled clients - primarily Fortune 500 executives - concerning their China operations. Scissors also wrote or edited the firm's various publications.
Scissors has published pieces in Foreign Affairs and The New York Times, among other places, and has appeared on Fox, CNN, CNBC, Bloomberg and other major networks.
He has a master's degree in economics from the University of Chicago and a doctorate in international political economy from Stanford.
