Mr. Bronson Percival

Bronson Percival is an expert on Sino-Southeast Asian relations.  A former diplomat and professor at the U.S. Naval War College, he is currently a Senior Advisor with the Center for Strategic Studies at CNA.  He also chairs a course on Southeast Asia at the U.S. Foreign Service Institute and recently taught a class on China and Southeast Asia at the School of Advanced International Studies, Johns Hopkins University. 

The Dragon Looks South: China and Southeast Asia in the New Century (2007), analyzes the political, economic and security components of China’s comprehensive strategy for Southeast Asia. Percival’s book also explores the implications of China’s new policies for the United States. Over the past several years, he has regularly lectured on China's shifting goals, intentions, and policies in Southeast Asia and Southeast Asians’ responses to China's initiatives. 

In addition to his work on Chinese influence in both South and Southeast Asia, Percival writes and lectures on Southeast Asian issues, maritime security in Southeast Asia and the Indian Ocean, and Islamic radicalism and terrorism in Asia. He was educated at the University of California-Berkeley (A.B.), the National War College (M.S.), and the University of Chicago, where he completed course work and research in India for his Ph.D.
