George T. Haley (Ph. D., University of Texas at Austin) is Professor of Marketing at the University of New Haven (UNH) and founding Director of the Center for International Industry Competitiveness (CIIC) which focuses on manufacturing companies in global environments. Dr. Haley is an expert on industrial and emerging markets. His research deals with Chinese and Asian business, value-chain management, product and technology management and managing intellectual property in emerging markets.
Before joining UNH, Dr. Haley taught at other major universities, including the Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (Mexico), National University of Singapore, Queensland University of Technology ( Australia), DePaul University, Fordham University, and Baruch College. He also taught classes at Harvard University, Purdue University and Thammasat University (Thailand). He has presented seminars to academics, managers and government policy makers in the USA, Vietnam, Finland, Thailand, India, Singapore, Mexico, Australia and New Zealand.
An award-winning author, Dr. Haley has over 100 articles, books, book chapters, research reports and presentations. His books include, The Chinese Tao of Business: The Logic of Successful Business Strategy (recommended by the Wall Street Journal as the only book on Asian business to buy in 2004) and New Asian Emperors: The Overseas Chinese, their Strategies and Competitive Advantages (labeled “an important study” by the Economist). Two books are forthcoming, New Asian Emperors: The Business Strategies of the Overseas Chinese and Marketing: Planning & Strategy, 8th ed.
His research has been profiled over 100 times in the major media, including the Economist, Financial Times, Wall Street Journal, Forbes, BusinessWeek, Time Magazine, CNN, Fortune, Voice of America, and Far Eastern Economic Review. He serves or has served on the Review and Advisory Boards of seven major academic journals and has guest edited three journal special issues on Business in Emerging Economies and on B2B Marketing.
Dr. Haley has conducted seminars for the National Intelligence Council/CIA, for the United States International Trade Commission, and testified before the US-China Economic and Security Review Commission. He also consults with multinational companies and governments in Asia, Australia, Latin America and the USA. He serves or has served as Advisor to the Strategic Planning Board of Rio Tinto, Ltd. (Australia), to the Export Promotion Board (State of Connecticut) and to the Metal Manufacturers’ Education and Training Alliance.
