Ms Harney is the author of The China Price: The True Cost of Chinese Competitive Advantage (Penguin Press, 2008), a ground-breaking investigation into the heart of America’s most important trading partner. The China Price has been translated into five languages and optioned for adaptation to film and television.
Ms Harney worked for many years as a correspondent and editor for the Financial Times, covering China, Japan and the UK. Her work has also been published in Time, the Wall Street Journal, The Times and The Washington Post. She has contributed to National Public Radio and the BBC World Service and is a commentator on Japanese television.
A Japanese and Mandarin speaker, she was named a Young Leader by the National Committee on US-China Relations and a delegate to the US-Japan Leadership Program.
Ms Harney is a 1997 cum laude graduate of Princeton University with a degree from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs. Born and raised in the Washington, DC area, she lives in Hong Kong with her husband, the photographer Colin Beere.
