Born in Coral Gables, Florida, James Ink grew up in Miami Shores, Florida.   In 1981, he attended Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida, from which he graduated with a BS Degree in criminology.

From 1982 until 1985, Mr. Ink served with the Miami Shores Police Department (MSPD) in Miami Shores, Florida.  In August of 1985, Mr. Ink left MSPD to attend the University of South Carolina’s School of Law in Columbia, S.C.  Upon graduating and passing the S.C. bar in 1988, Mr. Ink became a member of the U.S. Naval Reserve’s Judge Advocate General’s Corps and was stationed at the Naval Legal Service Office in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.  While in Hawaii, Mr. Ink served in the roles of Legal Assistance Attorney, Trial Counsel and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney. 

In April 1993, Mr. Ink took a position with the US Customs Service (USCS) Office of Investigations (OI) as a criminal investigator with the SAC Miami Office.  In July 2000, Mr. Ink left the SAC Miami Office to assume a position with the Office of Internal Affairs (IA) at USCS Headquarters.  In July 2001, Mr. Ink left IA and took a program manager position with OI in the Office of Planning and Policy at Headquarters for the USCS in Washington, DC.  In April of 2003, Mr. Ink became the Assistant Director for OI’s Office of Policy, and shortly thereafter assumed the position of the Acting Director for the Office of Planning and Policy, ICE OI.

In June of 2004, Mr. Ink joined the Office of International Affairs and assumed the position of the Deputy ICE Attaché in Frankfurt, Germany.  In August of 2006, Mr. Ink returned to Washington where he assumed the position he currently holds, that of the Deputy Assistant Director, Programs, OIA, ICE/DHS.  In this capacity Mr. Ink overseas operations for two units: the International Policy and Programs Unit and the Law Enforcement Parole Branch.  He currently lives with his wife and three children in Springfield, Virginia.
