
Ms. Patricia McNerney
Senior Advisor to the Under Secretary for Arms Control and International Security, US Department of State
Patricia A. McNerney is the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of International Security and Nonproliferation, with delegated management of the Bureau in the absence of an Assistant Secretary. Her key responsibilities involve diplomatic efforts to address the proliferation challenges, including Iran and North Korea; counterproliferation efforts to address the proliferation activities of states of proliferation concern and terrorists; implementation of multilateral treaties and initiatives and assistance programs; and support for civil nuclear programs consistent with nonproliferation principles.
Previously, she served as the senior advisor to the Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security Affairs as his principle advisor on counterproliferation efforts. Prior to coming to the Department of State, she served as the Republican Staff Director for the United States Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, the General Counsel to the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, and the Chief Counsel to the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations.
Ms. McNerney is a member of the Virginia Bar. She received her J.D. from Washington and Lee School of Law in Lexington, Virginia, and her B.A. from Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts.
