Carole R. Engle

Dr. Engle is an Aquaculture Economist with over 27 years experience in the analysis of economics and marketing issues related to aquaculture businesses.  She received the Ph.D. in aquaculture and fisheries with a specialization in economics from Auburn University in 1981.  She has worked in 19 different countries on all major continents.  She has published over 100 scientific articles, serves on the editorial board of the Journal of the World Aquaculture Society and the Journal of Applied Aquaculture, and is the Chief Editor of the journal Aquaculture Economics and Management.  While her work has focused on the economics and marketing of catfish, she has also made contributions related to baitfish, carps, hybrid striped bass, shrimp, tilapia, and trout.  She is a past-President of the U.S. Aquaculture Society and the current President of the International Association of Aquaculture Economics and Management.  She is the author of 42 different externally funded grant awards that total over $4.2 million and has been named to 13 different Who’s Who.

Honors include receiving the McCraren Award from the National Aquaculture Association (the only individual to receive this award twice), Researcher of the Year from the Catfish Farmers of America, Distinguished Service Award from the Catfish Farmers of Arkansas, and the Harvey McGeorge Award of Distinguished Contributions to Agriculture.

Dr. Engle currently directs the Aquaculture/Fisheries Center and chairs the Department of Aquaculture and Fisheries at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and continues her research, teaching, and extension efforts in the economics and marketing of aquaculture.
