Mr. Zhang is Executive Director of Association for Asian Research, an independent research organization based in New York City. Mr. Zhang is also part of Global Master of Arts Program at The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy and will graduate this July. Before coming to the U.S. in 1984, Mr. Zhang served for more than two years as an English translator and staff member at North America Department at China International Travel Service, a government agency in Beijing. Mr. Zhang later became a naturalized US citizen, and has worked as a part-time verbatim reporter at the United Nations and as an independent business consultant.Mr. Zhang has studied censorship in China extensively and has spoken on this subject at the European Parliament. Among his notable volunteer work is Mr. Zhangs role as Falun Gongs spokesperson for the past three years. He has worked with others at the US Congress to have successfully passed several resolutions, condemning Chinas persecution of Falun Gong and its harassment of US Falun Gong practitioners. Mr. Zhang has testified before the US Congress, the US Commission on International Religious Freedom, and the Italian Parliament on Falun Gong human rights issues. He has also spoken at the UN Human Rights Commission in Geneva as a member of US Freedom House delegation. Mr. Zhang has appeared on CNN, ABCs Nightline, the Charlie Rose Show, PBSs News Hour, BBC, MSNBC, and many other international media. Mr. Zhang has been invited to speak at the Council on Foreign Relations, Harvard University, Princeton University, Emory University, and at many other institutions.
