Dr. Yuanli Liu
Dr. Yuanli Liu is Assistant Professor of International Health at the Department of Population and International Health of Harvard School of Public Health. Dr. Liu has been teaching health financing and health system analysis at Harvard since 1994. Dr. Liu has conducted extensive studies on health equity and health system reforms in developing countries, particularly in China. Currently, Dr. Liu is leading a panel of international experts to help design, implement, and evaluate pilot programs on MEDICAID for the urban poor in China. From 1994 to 2000 he co-led a 7-year research/intervention study on provision and financing of health care in Chinas poverty areas. His work on access to basic health care services by the uninsured helped shape Chinas new rural health policies. Dr. Liu served as a coordinator of the Global Health Equity Initiative (GHEI), and he is currently a member of the Coordinating Committee of the Global Equity Gauge Alliance (GEGA). He serves on the UN Millennium Development Taskforce on HIV/AIDS, Malaria, TB, and Access to Basic Medicines. He is also Vice President for public health of the China Foundation (USA). Dr. Liu received his undergraduate and graduate degrees in medicine and public health from Tongji Medical University in 1987, MS in health policy and management from Harvard University in 1988, and PHD in health economics from the University of Minnesota in 1995.
