
Dr. Toshi Yoshihara

Dr. Toshi Yoshihara is an assistant professor in the Strategy and Policy Department at the Naval War College, Newport, RI. Previously, he served as a visiting professor in the Strategy Department at the Air War College, Montgomery, AL. Dr. Yoshihara has also served as a senior research fellow at the Institute for Foreign Policy Analysis in Cambridge, MA. His research interests include U.S. alliances in the Asia-Pacific region, China’s military modernization, security dynamics on the Korean Peninsula, Japan’s defense policy, and China-Taiwan relations. Dr. Yoshihara’s current research agenda focuses on the influence of geopolitics in Asia, China’s naval strategy, and Japan’s maritime strategy. Over the past two years, he co-authored journal articles on Chinese maritime strategy that appeared in Comparative Strategy, the Naval War College Review, Defense and Security Analysis, Issues and Studies, Orbis, and Proceedings. He is also co-author of a forthcoming volume entitled Chinese Naval Strategy in the Twenty-first Cnetury: The Turn to Mahan (Routledge, August 2007). Dr. Yoshihara holds a Ph.D. in international relations from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University, an M.A. in international relations from the School of Advanced International Studies, Johns Hopkins University, and a B.S. in international relations from the School of Foreign Service, Georgetown University.
