United States Business and Industry Council

The United States Business and Industry Council (USBIC) and its affiliated research arm, the USBIC Educational Foundation (USBICEF), champion the interests of America’s domestic family-owned and closely-held firms—our nation’s “main street” businesses—which create new products, jobs and growth here in the United States.  The Council’s mission is to expand our domestic economy, with particular emphasis on our manufacturing, processing, and fabricating industries, and through the resulting growth to extend a high standard of living to all Americans.  The Educational Foundation's mission is to provide research and support for the Council's mission and to expand the message of the small business community to our supporters, our nation's elected leaders, journalists, and college campuses.

Without healthy family- and privately-owned companies, America cannot realize its economic promise—wealth creation, sustained growth, high living standards, and good jobs.  Thus, USBIC advocates positions and the Educational Foundation researches policies designed to ensure a stronger, more economically vibrant United States— to benefit all Americans and the businesses that employ them

In recent years, “Free Trade” agreements, such as NAFTA, the WTO and Most Favored Nation (MFN) status for China, have produced some very unfair results—thousands of American companies closed, millions of American jobs lost to Chinese, Mexican, or other foreign factories.  National defense and high-tech work is now “outsourced” overseas!  Privately-held firms and middle-class workers are paying the price for unfair “free” trade.

Unique among national business associations, the United States Business and Industry Council (USBIC) has consistently opposed the unfair aspects of “free trade” since before the introduction of NAFTA.  From its founding in 1933, USBIC has championed America’s domestic family-owned and closely-held firms - our nation’s “main street” businesses - who create new products, jobs, and growth here in the United States.  Although issues have changed over the years, the Council’s goals have not.  Our mission is to expand our domestic economy, with particular emphasis on our manufacturing, processing, and fabricating industries, and through the resulting growth to extend a high standard of living to all Americans. Without healthy, privately-owned companies, America cannot realize its economic promise - wealth creation, sustained growth, high living standards, and good jobs.

In contrast to the many Washington special interests that push for national policies in accordance with their own private agendas, USBIC advocates positions designed to ensure a stronger, more economically vibrant United States - to benefit all Americans and the businesses that employ them.  Our positions always receive significant attention, as the Administration, Members of Congress, and the media know they can count on the Council for objective, principled viewpoints on the issues.  USBIC plays a critical national policy role through its education campaigns, lobbying efforts, press conferences, bipartisan staff briefings, op-ed pieces, and published monographs.
